15th trading week (10th – 14th of April 2023 trade journal)

My reason for keeping a journal is to encourage traders to also keep one for two major reasons:

  1. Track weekly trading performance.
  2. have enough data, in order to be able to work on their trading technique and psychology

Both can only be done when you keep a comprehensive journal, and review it every week.

MONDAY (10/04/2023)

NZD/USD (2.05 PM)

Sell trade on New Zealand dollar vs US dollar

Analysis: Selling the NZD/USD based on our weekly analysis

TUESDAY (11/04/2023)

NZD/USD (4.05 pm)

Analysis: Closed the NU trade at breakeven. I never expected such deep retracement when I took it yesterday. Also from Wednesday till Friday the news calendar is heavily clouded with high impact news, so I would prefer to close this trade at breakeven

THURSDAY (13/04/2023)

CAD/JPY (9.30pm)

Canadian dollar versus the Japanese Yen trade

Analysis: My reason for buying this pair can be seen on our Friday market analysis

FRIDAY (14/04/2023)

CAD/JPY Update (4.15 pm)

Analysis: I trailed cad/jpy after hitting my requirements and closed the trade with +44 pips

SATURDAY (15/04/2023)

GBP/CAD Update (7.30 pm)

Analysis: GBP/CAD was a trade I took on the 3rd of this month. We closed with a negative last week, but I allowed it to run into this week, and we are currently on+88 pips.

It’s a swing trade so I will allow it run into next week (the third week), we may close with an additional +300 pips

Trade activity summary for the week

DATE PAIRS BUY/SELL PIPS MADE/LOST
MON (10/04/2023) NZD/USD SELL Breakeven
THUS (13/04/2023) CAD/JPY BUY  +44 pips
FRI (14/04/2023) GBP/CAD SELL Pending (+88 pips)
TOTAL   + 44 PIPS

In conclusion:

It was an un-eventful week, I took just two trades due to the busy economic calendar, and I am holding the GBP/CAD trade into next week.

So far, I am happy with the GBP/CAD trade, it just shows that patience pays in this game. The breakeven trade on NZD/USD could have been a profitable trade if I had latched on to it, but I am happy with my decision to manually close it even though it went my way after the USD news was released.

Closed the week with about +0.5% profits (minus the GBP/CAD trade).

Looking forward to next week.
